The EU Commission requires member states to cut down the use of plastic bags
Since the 4th November the European Commission requires member states to reduce their use of lightweight plastic carrier bags, which are seen to be extremely harmful and damaging for environment. This is because once they turn into rubbish they can persist for hundreds of years. Member states are allowed to use many kind of measure to cut down the use of these bags: charges, national reduction targets, and marketing restrictions. Results can be achieved through effective action, as demonstrated by the high reduction rated happened in some able states.
